Leading up to the October 26 launch, Microsoft debuted its first commercial Monday night for the Surface With Windows RT. The minute long commercial does not show us any in depth details about the hardware or the software, but instead highlights the physical aspects of the tablet, including the Touch Cover, Type Cover and kickstand.
Microsoft made the Surface with Windows RT available for pre-order this morning, revealing the price for the tablet. The 32 GB version starts at $499, matching the price of the iPad 3rd generation, while offering more storage space then Apple’s product. For $100 more, you get you the 32 GB version with the Surface Touch Cover, which will not only protect the screen when folded closed, but also has a full keyboard. The 64 GB version comes with the Touch Cover and retails at $699.
Microsoft is banking on the success of the Surface with Windows RT, according the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft has placed orders for 3 million to 5 million units for the fourth quarter of 2012. These numbers are comparable to orders placed by Amazon for the Kindle Fire HD and Google for the Nexus 7. Mass production of the Surface with Windows RT began earlier this month.
