I am a beginner wanting to slowly learn more about photography. the main thing I want is good image quality for the maximum amount of situations (night, day etc). a gps would be handy but not necessary. also, I am after one that has the best build quality. thanks for your help

Which camera do you recommend for this person?

Fujifilm F550 EXR - $150
15.9 MP|15x f/3.5|1/2" CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon S9100 - $223

I purchased the fuji. It had awesome detail . But it had a yellow tone to the photos , the reds were burnt orange, and burgundys came out rust red . My pale timber floors screamed orange . But it had beautiful resolution in outdoor pictures of leaves and river pebbles . The yellow overtones were worse on the video . But the deal breaker for me was the indoor video . It was shocking . No good to record little Jonny blowing out candles at the birthday cake couldnt even recognise the face . The old kodak did a half decent job . So back to the store I went with two video recordings on a sd card with the old kodak and the fuji . The saleswoman who had sung the praises of the fuji said I have learnt something new , I have that camera but have never used the video indoors . I swapped it for the nikon coolpix . The detail isnt as good, but the color is more true . My tasmanian oak floor boards show up the natural colors . My off white internal walls are back to their true color and dont scream yellow . There is a fanatastic thick instruction book compared to the leaflet from the fuji . It is easier to work the controls . The fuji did feel better to hold though . Yes the river pebbles and tree leaves dont show as well . But I am so far happy I swapped . Depends what you are after . There is a choice web site that reviews the cameras and does make mention of the video . http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/electronics/digital-cameras/digital-srls/compact-digital-cameras-review-and-compare/comments.aspx
