I love both.I liked D5100 only because its sensor size is a bit larger than 550d's, a bit better color depth and more low light capabilities. But this difference doesn't make 550d the ugly.ITs still better in pic and with best vdo quality than d5100.Go with your budget.I suggest you a less expensive camera and invest more on good lenses.
Which camera do you recommend for Ankit-Bassi?

Beginner IIa year ago DaveSensor size? There is almost no difference in Sensor size. Nikon sensor is 23.6 x 15.7 mm Canon sensor is 22.3 x14.9 mm Get a ruler and see how big 1.6mm is.............. -
Intermediate IIa year ago Satyam-Prasad-JoshiIf you measure a field or area anything, you will not value a mere 1.6 mm with a ruler but in photography 1mm in sensor or pixels really counts.Without Photoshop, Nikon wins over Canon.Still images of Nikon is negligibly better than Canon, so I think that 1.6mm played a mere role. :) !

Hi Ankit, these are both great cameras, you can't go wrong with either. Canon tends to be a bit more popular, so if you went with the 550D there'd be a greater chance you could borrow lenses from a friend.
I'd recommend you either try each out at a store and see which one feels better to you, or if you find a deal on one of them then go for that!
These are incredible cameras and either way you can learn a lot about photography and take some amazing photographs. -
the nikon has teh better image quality and also 3 times less shutter delay.

i believe they both average out when u compare their pros and cons.. i would go with 550D bcoz its cheaper , better service and best of all has "magic lantern".

u just want a camera or a camera with good picture quality and value for money......
