Traveling photography

I am a beginner photographer. I want something that is easy to use, takes clear photos that are true to color and vibrant. I would like it to have automatic settings but also settings I can manually change once I understand them lol. Something that has a decently long battery life to where I could go on a week vacation and not have to charge it constantly. I am indifferent on movie recording. Something that will last me a while!

Which camera do you recommend for Lindsay-DeGuilio?

Canon SX40 - $319
12 MP|35x f/2.7|1/2.5" CMOS|2.7" LCD
Canon T3 - $332
12.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|2.7" LCD

Hi Lindsay, I'd recommend the Canon SX40 if you want convenience. Its a lot smaller than the T3, and has an incredible 35x zoom lens which will be great for all situations.

The T3 will take better quality photos, but,is bigger and bulkier, and it will be fairly expensive and cumbersome to buy lenses that compare to the range of the SX40.

However, if you do want to learn more about photography then T3 would be a better option.

      Thank you for your feedback!
I really don't plan on ever being a professional by any means, it sounds like the SX40 is up my alley. Currently I am young and traveling, etc so the SX40 sounds more convenient, especially for travel photos and the zoom aspect.
In your opinion though, when I have a family and want to take more portrait type "family" photos, would the T3 be a better option? Or would I be able to get by with the qualities of the SX40?
I just don't want to spend this kind of money then need to upgrade in 2-3 years.
      I appreciate your advice :)
