Not a beginner but no where near an expert. I enjoy taking pictures and making movies for the little ones to watch. I usually mix snapshots and videos so I want something that can do both pretty well. A lot of my pictures inside are blurry due to fast moving subjects.

Which camera do you recommend for Randy-Roussel?

Canon S95 - $430
10 MP|3.8x f/2.0|1/1.7" CCD|3" LCD
Canon 300 HS - $152
12 MP|5x f/2.7|1/2.5" CMOS|2.7" LCD

Hi Randy, I'm recommending the S95, but you should consider its successor the S100.

The S100 (and S95) have faster lenses than the 300 HS, and have larger sensors, and shoot RAW. So for natural (or low) light photography, that is definitely the way to go!

I also agree with Alex.  The faster glass and larger sensor in the S95 will allow for faster shutter speeds and less noise.  But, if it is in your budget, spring for a dSLR.  Even the worst SLR with a fast prime lens will completely blow the doors off any compact.  The trade off is size and weight.  If it is too big too carry then you won't use it much.  I carry an S95 for quick shots and keep my XTi handy for indoor use or times when I need a faster camera.  I use a 35mm f/2.0 that I love to death.  Happy hunting.
