I am a beginner. My son starts high school in the fall. He will be in the Marching Band.

Which camera do you recommend for Joani-Johnson?

Nikon D5100 - $497
16.1 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon D7000 - $897
16.1 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

Hi Joani, I'd recommend you go with the D5100 since its cheaper and I don't think you'll benefit from any of the D7000's advantages.

With a DSLR having the right lens can make a big difference, so you might want to spend less on the camera and more on the lens, for example a zoom lens like a 70-200mm or 70-300mm would be great for taking shots of a marching band.

      Hi WaterlooAlex,

I really appreciate your advice. Now I'm trying to price this camera; looking for a good deal on it. Thanks again, Joani

D5100 if you are not going to try going deeper into photography. Good video for what you need, flip screen, some funky modes and really good photo-video quality for its price

tight on finance - go for 5100 - else 7000 gives more functions
