I will use this mostly for shots of my little 3 year old son... the joy of my life.

I am a total beginner... only have a point and shoot digital camera up until now. But I have always been interested in learning about photography.

My son is always creating moments that I want to have permanent memories of. I really want a camera with great image quality... especially a moving target!!!

I'm just not sure where to start as I am a beginner who hopes to advance and take some classes but being a full time working mom am not sure that willl happen as quickly as I would like. So I need something that will allow me ease of use now and be somewhat advanced enough that if I do take some classes I won't "out grow" it too quickly.

Video is also important as I would like to have one camera that gives me both capabilities so that I don't have to carry a separate video camera to ball games, etc.

HELP!!

Which camera do you recommend for Beverly-Locke-Ventimiglia?

Nikon D5100 - $497
16.1 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Canon 60D - $699
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

If you are a beginner I would recommend the Nikon D5100, over the 60D, it is a lot easier to use and is built with the beginner in mind. But I think you should also check out the Canon T3i or T2i, they are more inline with the Nikon D5100, and also built for beginners. Canon is also a better camera for video, but you might not see much of a difference between the to cameras.

considering the price u save - get a 35mm f1.8 lens and that will give u amazing sharp pics

image quality on the sensor is comparable acc to the glass u use

Hi :) i use a canon 600D to take photos of children. i would recommend the canon over a nikon any day... simply because they're more user-friendly than a nikon.
