Hi, I' am an amateur photographer and have taken up photography as a hobby. Recently, while on a Jungle safari, I confronted a leopard and was very disturbed with my canon point and shoot camera. I wished I had a SLR and so now I' am thinking of buying either a Nikon D3100/D5000/Canon 550d. Could someone please suggest what could be the best choice?

Which camera do you recommend for Ketan-Nivding?

Nikon D5000 - $430
12.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|2.7" LCD
Nikon D3100 - $447
14.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

D3100 vs D5000? Consider than the D5000 is better, and better in the important matters. More solid body. Better speed (4 fps vs 3 fps) (important for wildlife photography, the animals will not pose or wait for you), better color depth (not so much, but diufferent: 22,7 vs 22,5) and MUCH better dinamic range (12,5 vs 11,3 EV) (also important for that kind of photography). Forget the overweighted megapixels question, it makes no real difference 12,3 vs 14,1 MPx. In this same page you can find the comparison between the two models, and the auto-mathematic sheet will say that the winner is the D3100... but note that the D5000 wins in the REALLY IMPORTANT points, as the D3100 wins in less important questions. Sorry for my bad english.
