Nikon L series are "auto" everything with very little, if any manual settings.
Nikon S series offer more controls, while the P series give the shooter the most control over camera settings. However, all of them have "auto" setting for just point and shoot mode.
L810 is an update of L120 with more zoom and more mps (worthless increase IMHO) and the sensor is essentially the same. Most likely, L120 can be had for lower price than L810 unless Nikon is running some sort of special.
For same or little more money, I would consider getting P500 (just updated to P510); it may be had for lot less than original MSRP now that P510 is out. That way, if your interest in photography increases, you have manual settings to learn with on P500.

I have Nikon L120 and P7100.
Since L120 is an automatic camera I got bored in few days and bought P7100.I suggested my brother to buy Panasonic FZ200 because it can give constant aperture 2.8 throughout all the focal length. So you can pick any Aperture from 2.8 to 8 throughout the zoom.
This facilities are available in Canon L Lens and Nikon G Lens (for DSLR) which are very costly. My brother is very happy with his first camera like this.

Nikon L120 is automatic you can't choose the mode you want while taking the pics while L810 i think it's manual

The Nikon Coolpix L120 has many modes to choose from and it also has a manual mode.
