The D7000 is similar to the D5100, but has more advanced features, including weather sealing for shooting in the rain, more focus points, faster frames per second, etc.
Which camera do you recommend for Rafael-Torres?

I'd recommend the Nikon D5100, which will give you extra money for lenses. Getting a lens like the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G will make a huge difference, it takes great portraits (including babies), and is great for natural light shots and blurring the background.

Pick the D5100. Apparently you liked it, so why go for something else which you are not sure about. As I have posted in my answer to another similar question: don't buy something you are not 100% sure you need. Stick to what you know already you like.
We learn as time goes and our preferences change. When you know you need the D7000 or another more advanced camera, go for it. D5100 keeps its price quite nicely on the used market, so you can always sell it if you change your mind.
Save some money and invest it in lenses or anything else you like.

There is no upgrading happening from D5100 to D7000 because they have the same sensor, megapixels, capabilities and functions. D7000 looks better, more buttons and had 2 more frames per second for continuous shooting. D5100 swivel LCD screen is more accurate and beneficial for artistry. Invest in lenses because they have still value in the long run. My friend had his first exhibit at the age of 19 and become the photographer of the year using a beginner dslr and only standard zoom lens. Its not the camera that makes a good photographer, photography is about artistry.

I have a D5100 and I'm very pleased with it. I also have a friend who has a D7000 and although they both share the same sensor, it seems to me that the 51 (?) focus points on the D7000 (plus 6 or 8 cross-type against the 1 on the D5100) produce more crisp and detailed images than the D5100. That's an important argument, I think...

The D7000 wins out all the way.. After a month of using the D5100 you will look back and regret not choosing the higher quality camera. the Low light performance is UN-matchable. Perfect for when you don't want that flash blaring off in your babies face..

Visitor9 months ago Ali-ZeToy are absolutely right. I bought a 5100 and it does not have Flash Commander so I have to buy $250 flash commander. it does not focus as easy as the 7000 does. I wish I could return it.
