Which camera do you recommend for Becky-Leavell-Farrell?

One more thing to consider when taking action shots is the lens. The 55-250 IS will probably be more than enough for your needs. If you are shooting outdoors or in a stadium with plenty of light then you won't really have any issues, but if not, Image Stabilization will not help fast action and high ISO will leave you with grainy pictures (not clear as per your priorities). If you are upgrading from a point and shoot even the cheapest dSLR equipment will be satisfying, but if you are looking for very nice photos you must consider a fast zoom lens. Unfortunately, these do not come cheap and are quite large. -
The image quality between these two is basically the same... and they both shoot at roughly 4 fps. So my advice is to go with the more affordable option. If you ever plan to do video then spend the extra to get the T3i (which has a flip out screen)
However, if you are not tied to Canon then there are some other great options in this price range (Sony SLT-A33 has 7 fps, Nikon 1 J1 has a much smaller sensor but does 60 fps). See other rapid fire cameras with large sensors under $600

I would take the Nikon D5100, because of it's good low light performance and amazing image quality.
