If you are looking for better image quality (especially during processing) I would recommend learning how to set your picture quality to the RAW format and then brushing up on Adobe Lightroom. Shooting in RAW will add much more quality to your photos than the typical JPEG format.

Also, I've been shooting with the D90 for about 2 years and it's very user friendly and hasn't given me any problems. Great multi-purpose camera.

They both are pretty evenly matched with tradeoffs.  I personally have always been a Nikon person and actually Just ordered a D90 off B&H 2 days ago and im just waiting for it to arrive.  Looking at the compare I prefer the higher image/color quality, less ISO noise, less shutter lag of the D90.  Yeah it may not shoot as fast or have as high a MP rating but anything past 10MP is picking at hairs for difference.

Luckily I have both the camera in my possession. At bright daylight both produces excellent pictures. Canon 60D has a slight edge because of its higher resolution (may be also because I was using 15-85 lens which is considered a very good lens). But low light Nikon D90 has clear edge although I was using 18-105 kit lens. in my opinion, D90 focusing and handling is way ahead of 60D. They say 60D has got 9 cross type focal point but in some situations where my 60D finds it difficult to focus my D90 focuses with ease with its mediocre kit lens. Now 60D also has some very good advantages like faster shutter speed, better HD video, possibility of bigger print with its 18 meg sensor etc. I must say both are very capable camera with their limitations.  So at the end of the day it is personal choice as per one's need. My personal fav is D90.

if u put L lens on canon body, that would be massive different... However it is too expensive to purchase for a new beginer

Same goes with Nikon "Gold Ring" lens also, that is 10 times as expensive as the kit lens. My comparison was between 18-105 Kit lens on D90 body with 15-85 mid range lens on on 60D body. I hope it makes sense.

nikon can beat canon at the general lens but not "pro". lens...canon-versus-nikon-lenses.html at www.radiantlite.com of course as the beginer you should pick d90 gears because it was pretty much cheaper and focus better than 60D but not with full frame, it can not beat canon ... :)

First of all, I don't want to start another Nikon / Canon fight. Secondly, I have been using Canon and Nikon both system for very long time so I don't have any bias. Having said that, it makes no sense to compare IQ of lens of two different make, cause it was done on different bodies. I can bet that, this data will change every time when a new body with better sensor is released for both the make. Lastly, with all due respect to that website's data, I see no reason to say that Canon lenses beat Nikon's. Moreover, if you look at the BC / IQ of the data sheet provided there, you will find that they are almost evenly matched in most of the cases.

It's a very strong competitors with similar design and similar purposes. Just test them both a little at shop with your SD-card. As the owner of D90, i can recommend it because of my positive experience; but i believe there are many 60D owners with the same reasons to recommend. Just touch'n'play them both and feel your heart ;))

Both camera has CMOS sensors not CCD. Nikon D80 is the last camera to use CCD in the same class.
