While the allure of the better body and gimmicks of the 7d is powerful, it's just more camera than you need. Save your money, put it towards a better lens.
Which camera do you recommend for Shana-Tiley-Praet?

I think the 7D will be a waste of money for you. It is almost practically the same camera. 7D is made to have faster shooting rate (can do 8 photo per second, 60D does 5.6). It can auto-focus much faster, such as catching a bird in a nice position, or a fast ball pass in a sport game. But do remember, the camera will do so much for you, if your reaction is slow, you will still miss the shot. Think of the 7D as it is made for cowboy gun duel: pull out the gun and shoot faster than a blink of eye, without given notice. Do you really need this?
But your interest is in outdoor family or even in studio, the 7D extra features don't mean a whole lot to you. 60D can still do sport, can still do quick shoot as you can catch a special moment. It is still a great camera. It is even better with the articulate screen and better video capability (just in case you need them).
If I were you, I would definitely go with Canon 60D without a doubt. The money saving can let you spend on better lenses, which will make all the difference in your results.

As you point out, the 60D is much cheaper than the 7D. So another great option is to buy the 60D and put the extra money towards a great lens like the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM lens. -
I recently went through the same process of trying to decide between the 60D and the 7D. But with the 5D mark III out now, there are lots of 5D mark II's going up on eBay. So rather than buy a brand new 7D, I got a used 5DII for about the same price. So if you can put a little more money towards lenses, I'd suggest getting the full frame 5DII, which has far superior image quality.- No doubt, buying used equipment is not for the feint of heart. I've bought a few used items and have had no problems yet. YMMV.

If you do mostly sport photog. ,I'd go with 7D. but, also if you want to save $500 I would go with 60D.

buy the EOS 60D BO + EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, or you can get EOS 60D BO + Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Canon-ef

i tell you honestly you can play it more than your imagination.SUPERB SPECS.feel the touch of the PRO in imaging more than you think ,particularly outdoor.

In terms of picture quality you will find it hard to tell apart from the two cameras. But here is the difference. Its how you get to getting those fantastic pictures. The 7D can shoot faster good for moving subject and it can focus a lot quicker. other than that the 7d is built like a tank and it far better feel in your hands than 60d. Ive heard the 60d buttons arent that great.
If price an issue the 60d offers better value no doubt! but if you cannot do way with faster shooting and focus the 7d will give that. in fact those that have reviewed the 7d havnt got much bad thing to say about it.

I considered the "I wish situations"...if a weather seal seems important, it'll be too late when it IS important. True for most of your shooting the 60D shines, but the 7D does exactly what the 60D does AND more. Why limit yourself....You can always save up for lenses.

I am not sure about the eos 7D, but i have the 60 D and it continually takes slightly blurry pictures, which may not be that visible to the average person, but it is quite obvious.. which I have since learned is a common complaint with the 60D,, I have a digital rebel xt which takes sharper pictures at only 8mp vs 18 of the 60 D,, so just be wary
