The D7000 is outside of your budget. So the winner is the D5100 by default. And you'll find the D5100 is great for beginners, regardless! :)-
Visitorover a year ago Emil-Burton-ClausenMany thanks Philip :) What about the Canon 60D? -
Expert IIIover a year ago Philip-DavisI'd definitely suggest the 60D. Canon's video is better quality than Nikon's. However, both are still great cameras for a beginner and you'll do equally well with either.

Based on your budget, you don't really have a choice. If you are into video, read more on that. Most dSLRs video is quite limited), though the D5100 is among the better ones. If the video is most important I would consider to go for a mirrorless instead of dSLR
Again if you are into video, you might want to consider the following:
- what movie format is the camera using (.MOV in case of D5100) different formats have different strength and weaknesses
- stereo sound (D5100 doesn't have stereo unless you use an external microphone
