I'm an advanced amateur and the most important features in the camera are ease of use and very sharp photographs

Which camera do you recommend for Sherry-McCollum?

Nikon D700 - $3,500
12.1 MP|Full frame CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon D300S - $1,270
12.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

Go for the D300s and spend some extra money on lenses. To get great wildlife shots you'll need a long lens, at least 300mm.

The D700 has many advantages, the main being that it is full frame which will get you better image quality especially in low light. However, since the D300s is a crop body, your lenses will effectively have longer focal lengths making it easier to get great wildlife shots.

For wild life I recommend DX formats because of the zoom factor it gives you. usually cameras like D700 and other full frames are suitable for landscapes where you need wide angles, but for wild life you need higher zoom which you can get by default (1.5x) on DX formats. The reason I am suggesting D7000 over D300s is simply because its better performance in every aspect and lower price tag that it has.

far less noise at high iso. Selective enlargements still give quality prints. Worth the price difference. Personally I don't use video, so if video is important to you then don't bother with this marvelous piece of kit.  If cash is important, buy a used D700 from a "Must have the latest" photographer these people nurse their kit.
