Family pictures and nature pictures

Denise-Wilson | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was over a year ago

I am a beginner photographer and I love to take photos of nature. I take a lot of macro photos and I would like to take more of birds from a distance but my current "point and click" cameras just don't have a powerful enough zoom. I also have a baby and I need a camera that will take good indoor and outdoor pictures of her. The other thing I am looking for is a camera that will take good photos of the night sky for me. I live in the north and really want to get pictures of the northern lights. I would also like the camer to have video capabilities.

The only thing I am weird about is I have had bad experiences with cameras that don't have a special ion battery for them and you have to use AA, or AAA batteries. For some reason they just don't seem to hold the charge that long.

Which camera do you recommend for Denise-Wilson?

Fujifilm HS20 EXR - $385
15.9 MP|30x f/2.8|1/2" CMOS|3" LCD
Panasonic DMC-FZ47 - $300
12 MP|24x f/2.8|1/2" CCD|3" LCD

I would recommend the HS20, it looks like it will meet all your needs. It has a good zoom, and is good for close ups, as for battery life this camera doesn't use AA batteries, and you should expect to get around 400 shots from one charge.

I think Brenden is recomending the Fz47, as the HS20 is the camera that uses AA batteries, while the Fz47 does not.
