The NEX system is awkward and ungainly with a tiny narrow body fitted to a large awkward lens. Not the best for handling.
No eye level or optical viewfinder so pretty useless outdoors in sunlight.
Canon image quality is also better.

The image quality from the NEX is better, you can compare it in DxOmark.com, sony's APS-C sensors are the best at the moment. But when ou can get a 500D with to good lenses buy that because the lenses for the NEX system are very expensive. And the NEX-C3 have another disadvantage, the autofocus is slower than from the 500D. When you want to shoot fast action take a DSLR oder the NEX with the sony DSLR adapter then the autofocus is as fast as it is on any DSLR but it is expensive and then you need new alpha lenses. Take the 500D with the extra lenses and have fun.
