I am new to to amateur photography and am looking to purchase a decent SLR camera, I have had my eyes set of the Sony NEX-C3 for sometime now, but have been offered through a friend the Canon 500D for a slightly cheaper price and this includes two lens compared to the one Sony is offering. I want to take photo's in fast moving conditions, such as motoracing and snowboarding, which one of the two will be better for this kind of thing and overall which is the bette quality.

The NEX system is awkward and ungainly with a tiny narrow body fitted to a large awkward lens. Not the best for handling.

No eye level or optical viewfinder so pretty useless outdoors in sunlight.

Canon image quality is also better.

Did you ever got one in your hands? Ok, menus are a little confusing and it lacks some more dials or buttons, but you cant say that the screen is useless outdoors. It is bright as hell, and shows vivid and shar images even in sunlight.

Yes, I have. I presume you live somewhere the sun doesn't shine that bright. I have yet to find any LCD that works perfectly when bright sunshine shines directly on it. No Optical finder or even an EVF = FAIL

The image quality from the NEX is better, you can compare it in DxOmark.com, sony's APS-C sensors are the best at the moment. But when ou can get a 500D with to good lenses buy that because the lenses for the NEX system are very expensive. And the NEX-C3 have another disadvantage, the autofocus is slower than from the 500D. When you want to shoot fast action take a DSLR oder the NEX with the sony DSLR adapter then the autofocus is as fast as it is on any DSLR but it is expensive and then you need new alpha lenses. Take the 500D with the extra lenses and have fun.
