Traveling with so much equipment is becoming a chore rather than a joy.  I ave gone heli-hiking with my full back pack loaded.  What a chore!.    I am slightly more than a beginner, but love using the features & lenses on my camera.  I love macro work and pictures of my grandchildren.  I was thinking about one of the new , I believe the are 3/4 cameras, because of size.  I want more than a point & shoot.  Thank you in advance for any and all advice.  Claudette

The D5100 is one of the best in thermes of image quality and ISO of the crop frame's.

It's also fairly small compared to other dslr's but if size is really your most important feature, the panasonic would me more suited for you, Comprimizing a bit on ISO and image quality and versatility.
