The 50D and 60D have the same lens mount and hotshoe, so all your lenses and flashes will be transferable. But the 50D uses battery grip BG-E2N while the 60D takes BG-E9. The controls are also very different on the 60D. So unless you're into video, stick with the 50D.
Which camera do you recommend for Tim-Bullock?

Every Canon DSLR will accept speedlite EX flashes, however those that are not EX II will have to be manually setup but since you have the 50D you already are used to that.
Grip and batteries are different for those cameras, so unless you have squeezed everything from your 50D keep it, but the 60D is better at shooting video, is faster and the display swivels making it quite nice to shoot from pretty much any angle without you having to adopt weird and uncomfortable positions.

Expert III9 months ago Philip-DavisI have a 430 EX and it doesn't require manual setup (meaning it fully supports e-TTL functions). What it doesn't support is changing its settings via the camera body. Having said that, I use it on manual anyways because I always have it off-camera and triggered wirelessly.

I don't think it's worth upgrading for the 60d, since it lost a few features, favoring video instead. If you own EF-S lenses the best choice would be: stick to the 50d or get the 7d!
