Mostly want to use camera for light painting

beginner...getting into light painting, so want a shutter that can stay open longer, plus lots of outdoor scenic pictures

Which camera do you recommend for Marisa-S-Bisping?

    These cameras are very similar in quality.  The T3i is a slightly better camera in many regards, but I'm not convinced that the difference in price is justified.  In terms of light painting, both cameras support bulb mode, which allows you to keep the shutter open for as long as you like.

    I would take the Nikon D5100, because of it's good low light performance and amazing image quality.
