You are going to get far better quality images from the T2i. But depending on how far you are from the action, you may need an additional lens. For example, the EF-S 55-250mm IS lens -- except you probably won't need to zoom all the way to 250mm for shooting your sister unless you want close-up shots of her on base as well.
Which camera do you recommend for this person?

Visitor8 months ago Ted-BurtakYour comparing apples to oranges. I can buy the HS30EXR at Costco for $325 sales tax included. It comes with an 8 gig SD card and Carrying Case. The Canon T2i plus both lenses would cost around $850 on Amazon. Try comparing something more realistic & not a dslr that's $500 more and would have a learning curve to match. This person stated that they were a beginner, as such I think the HS30 would be a better match as she/he could be taking actual pictures and not have to contend with the steep learning curve of a dslr. Sure she could put the T2i on automatic but is it worth $500 more to do that & get about the same results. Common sense people. Canon fanboyz & girlz are blinded by logic. Even if you're not a member, & have to join, the Costco membership fee of $55 + cost of the Fuji camera is still a great deal. An no, I'm not shilling for Costco. -
Expert III8 months ago Philip-DavisI think you fail to realize that I didn't make the comparison. I simply answered the question. The T2i is fine for beginners. I would say the same thing about the Nikon D3100 or a Sony a57. But Gunnar asked about these two cameras and, in my opinion, the T2i is better. You're welcome to have your own opinion. Besides, the question was asked 7 months ago. Gunnar has probably already made a purchase. -
Visitor8 months ago Ted-BurtakGeez! 7 months ago. Didn't see that. I wonder what time it was when I wrote this comment. Normally I'm aware that I turn into a complete idiot after about 12 am. THAT'S why that little voice in my head kept telling me to mind my own business and go to bed. I shoulda listened.
