I have been experimenting with a canon 30D and now I want to buy a semi-pro DSL. I  am a beginner in photography but I expect a lot from a camera, easy menu and buttons are desirable. Most important are image quality (also depending of the lensen, I know) and performance in situations with less light. Filming is nice but not the most important aspect.

Which camera do you recommend for Robert-Chabot?

Pentax K-5 - $675
16.1 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon D7000 - $897

These are very similar cameras. But the stats show that the K-5 is slightly better than the D7000 including an extra stop of ISO sensitivity -- and it's less expensive.  Image stabilization (sensor shift) is built in to the camera, which might save you from having to buy expensive Nikon VR lenses for wildlife shooting.

Having said that, the button layout on the D7000 is closer to what you're familiar with on the 30D
