I am a beginner. I want to take child’s photos. Video function is important to me too.

Which camera do you recommend for eting0423?

Sony NEX-5N - $589
16 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon J1 - $397
10 MP|Nikon CX CMOS|3" LCD

If you are a casual shooter like me, and enjoys filming or taking photos of your son, I would certainly recommend the Sony Nex-5n. Its video capture at 1080p 60p is phenomenal. Also, this Sony camera has a touchscreen with double the resolution of the NIkon J1.

    Happy shooting! :)

go with sony nex 5n! it beats nikon j1 in many aspects even image quality! i have 5n and 60d also, the images taken with the same lens kit (sony 18-55mm and canon 18-135mm) are almost identical or even sometimes 5n image quality better than my canon! how come? i have no idea.. im an amateur photographer, but i uderstand about  what so called the magic triangle. same settings, same lens and sony image quality sometimes better than canon 60d?i guess ill just have to learn and learn and learn more  about photography. cheers

The 5N is the much better choice.  It supports 24p the Nikon does not.  The Sony is much more feature packed, has better low light sensitivity for indoor performance.

I have a Nikon d7000, but in the mirrorless segment Nikon just isn't up to snuff yet.
