The Sony has a much bigger view finder, which helps a lot when composing shots. Sure, the Nikon has slightly better image quality at high ISO... but you're probably always at ISO 100 for studio portraits; although for team sports -- depending on the sport -- you will probably find yourself at higher ISO.
Which camera do you recommend for desy-boo?

A65 is the best, i have an A65, and I do studio portraits in my studio, A65 have 24megapixels, and you can see in the truFinder, the picture "before you take it", and you have more focus points, and 3 cross type focus points, it give you more efficiency!
and you have steady shot, (image stabilization) with all lenses, (prime, macro, telephoto, etc) :D

its all about ISO and better GLASS

if i was you id when with nikon most there camera bodies how very little image noise at 1600 and 3200 unlike the a65 a iso 1600 you see noise/grain but you can always change the picture with noise/grain to black and white.... but since you have sony lens already id stick with sony and just get better glass not the cheap ones anything thats a fixed f2.8 or better none of that 3.5-5.6 stuff cuz you will struggle to get a clear picture.... :-) -
A65 is much better than D5100
Has a OLED viewfinder (the best of viewfinders)
More dinamic range
Image stabilisation ( 100% of lenses have a "stabilisation" including Primes lens)
autofocus video 100% 60fps FullHD
Panorama photos
GPS !!
10 Fps shooting !
more viewfinder coverage
More focus points !!
- The Sony is also more expensive, and OLED is not always a good thing. You can almost get a Nikon D7000 for the price of the sony one.
