How to make close-up macro with Lumix FZ 150 ?

Christine-Flebus | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was 8 months ago

i have a Lumix FZ 150 and i like to make close-up photos of insects, flowers, etc.... so far i have not succeeded to do so with this camera on a close distance...

before i had the Lumix FZ 7 and i could make easily those kind of macros, with less quality but close-up.

is my Lumix fz 150 not the right camera to make macroshots??

do i need to buy conversion lensen ?

and if so, if i buy a conversion macro lens, what is the minimum and maximum distance i can use it for?

thank you

The answer to that depends upon how close you want to get. If you set your FZ150 to 12 mp, the focus switch on the lens barrel to "AF macro" (the flower symbol) and zoom it all the way out then "zoom with your feet" until you can get it to focus on the subject (generally about 3 ' distance) you'll get a good shot. Folks who add on a macro lens can get much closer (detailing the face of a bug) but with varying (and usually, shallower) depth of field. It also helps greatly to turn OFF all "iZoom", "ezoom", "digital zoom" features and let the glass do the work rather than messing up your shot with pixellation from the in-camera software.

I would try that and see if you are happy with the results before shelling out to try a different camera.

thank you Tootsall, i sure will try... i bought myself a raynox macro conversion lens DCR-250 and i ve been with it on the field... it s ok, but i still wonder why people can be so enthusiatic about it, the quality isn t still that good than using a small compact with macro zoom on it... and it isn t that easy to use either, i don t even talk about putting it on and off, just in case you want to make a photo of something else a little bit further away..... but thanks a lot for replying :) have a nice day !
