The S100 has a faster lens and has much better light sensitivity (ISO). So it will function much better in low light (e.g. indoors with your friends and family shots). As for freezing action shots, you'll probably need to use the flash with either of these cameras unless you're shooting outside at midday.
Beginner photographer - going to Europe and want a good travel camera. But I also want a camera to take pictures of friends and family - want crisp, clear photos that don't turn out blurry during action shots.
