Me; A little beyond beginner. Need to learn a lot more with manual adjustments .

Achievements; several photos in exhibitions, competition. One International award ...... most of these were Olympus Camedia 770 (4 MegaPixel). A few with the very disappointing Canon EOS Rebel XT.

No store has either camera.  So, I cannot get a feel for the cams. Would like to buy in next few days.

Intend to buy Tamron 18-200mm lens, 6 year warranty, $250 (affordability issue). :(  Wish for higher priced all-in-one zoom

Considering K5 (less $450 ) $ are not the sole consideration.

Will use Live View, ONLY!.. (problem with glasses, etc. Much easier to compose shots with Live View, plus I don't miss shots)

Big like; K5 - low noise at High ISO. Lower lag time,

Dislike; No dedicated movie button. No AF  for movie mode.  LCD not articulated,

Opinions;  What is the quality of k5 movies without Auto Focus ????

Will the lack of movie really bug me or is it something I get used to?

Any opinions on the features common to both are welcome!

Any other considerations?  This is the only camera I'll buy in 2-3 years. Probably buy other lenses, later

Which camera do you recommend for insleep?

Pentax K-5 - $709
16.1 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Sony A77 - $998
24 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

Having had both cameras I would highly recommend the A77. First off you get 8 more MP which is huge, the video is better than any DSLR, the noise at high ISO is not as bad as has been reviewed.

DO NOT BUY the Tamron lens! For the same money or less you can buy legendary Minolta lenses that will give you much sharper photos and better color. The Tamron is junk compared to Minolta. You can probably get yourself a Minolta 28-85, a Minolta 100-200, and a good Sigma flash for the same $250 on ebay.

When your budget allows resell those lenses and get a Minolta 20MM 2.8 ($300-359) a Minolta 28-135MM as your walk around lens ($300-350) and a Minolta 100-300MM APO for your big zoom ($300-350). These 3 lenses will be all that you'll ever need and the quality of your photos will amazing. The Sony A77 has a 1.4x and 2x zoom button so with thgis lens combo you'll be covered from 20MM-600MM!
