I am an intermediate photographer and currently shoot with a Nikon D7000.  I'd like to get a second camera that will be my "light, fast, go-to p&s".

Which camera do you recommend for Frank-Villafane?

Sony A57 - $460
16 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Olympus E-M5 - $999
15.9 MP|Four Thirds CMOS|3" OLED

The much disputed SLT technology really loses 1/3 f-stop of light but gives you fast and precise autofocus in video mode. The A57 features in-body stabilization - hence you can buy cheaper lenses, including older Konica / Minolta ones, which are cheap and very good. Furthermore, you can use manual focus lenses with M42 and/or T/T2 mounts. You will need adaptors for those, but they are very cheap and don't degrade the IQ as they have no optical elements.

Well, not all requirements. Olympus OMD E-M5 is much lighter and smaller. Plus, it is weather sealed and doesn't have this translucent mirror which loses 30% of light.
