Insect photography

I need quick and sharp macro focus for close photography of insects. Any suggestions?

Which camera do you recommend for Julie-Barrett?

Canon 60D - $699
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Canon T2i - $550

I have the 60D, and because I love macro I got me the 100mm 2.8L IS USM. . . and I LOVE it! this lens is sharp as a shark's tooth.

Now, about the camera. When I was doing my research to upgrade my gear I narrowed it between the 60D and the 7D. Granted, the 7D is Pro and all, but the 60D has the swivelling display, and let me tell you that little thing does help a lot when you find yourself in an akward position (which my in my experience is not uncommon).

And just to finish my 2cents, for bugs a flash with difuser is quite handy (I'm thinking the speedlite 430EX II), however, as far as quick shots in macro, well, that is where the fun comes. Patience and more patience will be required, remember those little critters are very active. Too bad I cannot share a pic here :(

    I'd recommend  neither.

Get the 50d which is a camera  with more features for taking stills and you'll save money for a macro lens. (if your budget allows, the 7d has a better focus mechanism and a faster FPS which is essential for this kind of photography)

I'd also recommend the canon EF 100mm usm f/2.8.

If you're shooting indoors also get a good  tripod, a focusing rail and a ring flash.
