Looking for high quality photos...

aleone73 | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was 8 months ago

I have to date had only point and shoot cameras.  I am a beginner.  I would like to take a photography class but I am a single mother of two (6 and 11 months) so it is not in the cards right now.  I want a camera that can capture action shots from sports to swimming and also capture the sweetness of a sleeping baby.  Let me know what you think would best suit me.

Thanks for all your help...

Which camera do you recommend for aleone73?

Sony NEX-5N - $499
16 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon J1 - $397
10 MP|Nikon CX CMOS|3" LCD

In my opinion, I would recommend the Sony Nex-5n for your needs. First off, the camera comes with a flash, carrying strap and a very well put together "in camera" manual for beginners. This was very helpful for me starting out. This sony camera's battery is also double that of the Nikon J1 (more happy baby photos!! :)). In terms of pricing, the Sony Nex-5n is a bit more expensive than the nikon j1, so it depends on your budget. If you are buying a memory card alongside it, make sure it is on sale ( I got my 32gb for only $19.99 at Best Buy) because it is a ripoff if you dont wait. (Original price = $69.99)

    Happy Shooting :)

    Cute baby!

By far, this is the best mirrorless camera in the world today (it's more expensive brother NEX-7, performs similarly). It has EXTREMELY higher ISO performance than ANY OTHER compact system camera (can shoot REAL HIGH quality pictures, noiseless even above 1600 ISO). The videos made by NEX-5, 5n and 7 will make you believe they were recorded by some camcorder - that's how good they are.
