Backpacking around NZ, Oz & Asia for 6 months

Willow1306 | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was over a year ago

I have had several point and shoot compact cameras in the past. I also have an entry level fuji film digital SLR but I have to admit that I mainly use this on auto mode. I have good basic skills in composition and photo editing as well as timing for capturing action shots ( a lot of time spent photographing horses!)

I need a rugged, durable camera that I can take out and about with me on my travels, whether I'm hiking , snorkelling or out at night. I'd also like to be able to take good scenic shots and some close ups. The camera needs to be easy to use as with what I'm doing, changing settings all the time may not be possible.

One thing that i find annoying with my current Samsung compact camera is the speed.

Looking forwards to hearing your advice :)

Which camera do you recommend for Willow1306?

Panasonic DMC-FT3
12 MP|4.6x f/3.3|1/2.5" CCD|2.7" LCD
Nikon AW100 - $221
15.9 MP|5x f/3.9|1/2.5" CMOS|3" LCD

First off I am jealous, that sounds like a great trip.

Both are good cameras, I own an Olympus Tough camera, which is great. I think I would go with the Panasonic because it has much better battery life, although the Nikon is a slightly better camera.
