Kids doing karate. Indoor dojo poor light. 20-30 ft away

Cat | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was over a year ago

Im a mom, I need a good versatile camera, but I really need these pictures of my kids doing their karate tests.  Need light weight camera that can zoom far and take good pictures in low light.  Help please!

Which camera do you recommend for Cat?

Nikon S6200 - $95
15.9 MP|10x f/3.2|1/2.5" CCD|2.7" LCD
Nikon S6300 - $118
15.9 MP|10x f/3.2|1/2.5" CMOS|2.7" LCD

Hi Cat, taking photos of fast motion (karate) in low light, is really hard.  Almost all point and shoot cameras have the same sized image sensor (they're small) so they all do poorly in low light.

Using zoom in low light makes things even worse.  I think either of these two will do fairly well compared to other point and shoots, but don't expect anything too amazing.

There a few point and shoot cameras with larger sensors, but they don't have much zoom, tend to be advanced and pricey.  You might consider something like the Nikon P7100, with a 1/1.7" sensor and 7.1x zoom.

The Nikon S6300 is the better camera, it should be able to handle taking photos of your kids karate tests. Good luck.
