ability to take good quality sports/action shots

I had an SLR many years ago and my first DSLR was a compact SONY DSC-H9 i bought 5 years ago, but am seriously considering the Nikon V1 combined with the Nikkor 30-110 lens. The price of this package versus something similar to the Sony NEX-5N is about the same but the review above favoring the Sony has put some doubt in my mind  :-)

Which camera do you recommend for ianstewartdxb?

Nikon V1 - $500
10 MP|Nikon CX CMOS|3" LCD
Sony NEX-5N - $589
16 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

I have the NEX-7 but i know that the NEX-5N is a very good camera, too. I suggest to buy the Sony but i think the AF speed is a little bit faster than from the sony... but i know there is a firmware update from sony wich improve the AF speed. The big advandage of the Sony is the DX Sensor (DX size its a little bit bigger than the origianl APS-C sensor but sony says its an APS-C). Choose the Sony... you will have fun with that... sorry for my bad english... good buy.

The choice is quite difficult. I went through the same dilemma. I ended up buying the Sony. The crux of the choice is dependent on your end use. The Sony I feel has superior image quality, the Nikon has better low light focusing performance. So when you decide your main use, that should help your decision. I am not doing much low light stuff so I chose the 5N and am delighted with my selection. Image quality makes me very happy.

I own the Sony NEX-C3 and it performs great. I conclude that the NEX-5n will do better!

does the camera still have that video noise issue?

While the sensor size and noise performance of NEX 5n is a plus, the lack of lenses is an issue unless you don't mind adapters and manual focus. The V1 does have the better auto focus, 60fps and with a Nikon F mount adapter, more lenses; all.  Of which would be better for action/sports photography.

Definitely NEX 5N. If money is not a constraint then U may go for NEX 7. 18-200 lenses are available from Sony and Zeis though the price of Zeis is 2 times of that Sony. I am using NEX 5 and the picture quality is much much better than Nikon V. Nikon has released their baby for the first time and it will take time to improve.
