Lightning Quick Autofocus for a moving 2 year old target!

Mark-Ballard | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was 7 months ago

Hey everyone. I'm a pretty unexperienced amateur that currently uses a Samsung NX10 normally with a 30mm f2 lens to take essentially portraits of my little 2 year old and an even littler 1 week old!

The trouble I have is that trying to take multiple shots of my 2 year old when she's moving through the garden and I'm ahead of her.The time the NX10 takes to autofocus for each shot means I only get about 2 frames a second. Is it unreasonable to expect more than that and would the GX1's very fast autofocus help?

I'd really appreciate anyones help with this, particularly if you have a GX1.

Many Thanx

Both Cameras are good enough to do this...

These are more of a Semi-Professional grade camera...

My recommendation is not in the camera itself, but rather in your choice of Lens.

Autofocus is quicker on a lower focal length lens, a 14mm on the Lumix, or a 16mm on the NEX combined with the High Megapixels of the Cameras, and you can easily crop your photos, to see the detail for prints or Posting on the Internet.

The other feature both of these cameras offer, is the option to get out of AUTOMATIC MODE, and use APERTURE PRIORITY mode... (Av) doing this will tell the camera, that you want the the picture a certain Brightness... and it will listen.

Setting your ISO to AUTO, and the focus drive to continuous, and you should end up with WAAAAY more "keepers" than you ever thought Possible.

With a fast lens like the Sigma 19mm f2.8, and set to continuous shooting.  You'll get WAY more shots in the same amount of time that you describe for the NX10
