The D5100 and D7000 are nearly identical in low-light performance, but the D5100 is half the price of the D7000. The D7000 has weather sealing, making it more rugged, but for a beginner it seems hard to justify the extra $600. I'd get the D5100 and use the extra cash to buy a nice landscape lens.
