Taking outdoor scenery, distant views, mix of travel photos

Laura-Russell | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was a year ago

I love taking photos and uploading to web sites to share with family and friends.  I am planning a trip to Vietnam and expect to take tons of photos.  Mostly outdoor photos, mixed light and distance, mountains, water, beaches, people.

I like some manual options but prefer auto focus mode.  Dont expect to do much editing on the camera.  I want clear pictures with good color.  I want to take photos fast (not wating for it to be ready to click again).  I expect to take a few panorama shots.

I like that the WB850 uses the micro port for charger like my Droid phone.  I like its touch screen and wifi.

I like coments about auto focus pic quality ease of use of the Sony.   Also looking at the Nikon s9300.  Like the price and quick pic time.    I do not expect to take many videos.

Which camera do you recommend for Laura-Russell?

Sony DSC-HX9v - $480
15.9 MP|16x f/3.3|1/2" EXMOR|3" LCD
Samsung WB850F - $238
15.9 MP|21x f/2.8|1/2" CMOS|3" OLED

Took this camera with me on a trip to the UK and Ireland and never missed a shot I wanted to take.  Nice and compact with a great zoom (for a travel camera) and really nice pictures.  Video  mode is really good and the panoramic sweep modes are awesome (especially for scenery).  The only downside is how you have to charge the camera.

consider the 21x zoom and f2.8 seems better - however 10fps on Sony may prove faster - i own a hx5v and it makes amazing pics - more than 90% of my pics are useful - except those taken in v low light which would need some tweaking before using. . . .  . .. .for point and shoot - i would recommend Sony as it also gives some manual control which is missing on nikon or samsung

actually the samsung has all of the exposure modes ( program, aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual)

the only out win for this is the burst rate then - else i see both of them to be competent enough - of course if u let the extra 5x zoom go

however above all arguments - cost of samsung is v attractive too and u can buy some accessories like a memory card - tripod......
