I'm a DJ and singer/soundperson in a band.  I want a professional grade camera that takes crisp, clear photos, has a fast shutter speed, all without bumbly lenses that I have to change or spend more money on.  A lot of pictures I take will be in clubs in low and flashing lighting.  I'm also a wedding DJ and would like to snap some pictures then as well.  I don't want a basic point and shoot.  I've grown up with my mom as a photographer and know my way around a camera pretty well but I want something easy when I'm multi-tasking.  I've been looking at the Canon powershot sx40.  Is this what I need?

Which camera do you recommend for Michele-Davis-Hogsett?

Canon SX150 IS - $91
14 MP|12x f/3.4|1/2" CCD|3" LCD
Canon SX40 - $314
12 MP|35x f/2.7|1/2.5" CMOS|2.7" LCD

It is almost a DSLR without the worry of changing lenses. Good sensor and a huge zoom. Great effects on manual mode, the best your money can buy in point and shoot cameras.

I own the SX40. Great in low light with excellent battery life. The lens action is smooth and quick. If you don't mind a larger body it's the best of the two.

The SX40 has a TON of zoom, I'd only recommend it if you are going on Safari or taking pictures of things way off in the distance.

For low light shooting I'd recommend either a pro digicam with a larger sensor and fast aperture, or a mirrorless camera such as the NEX-5n.

Why not get a small DSLR and a single, fast lens that you don't worry about changing?

Not happening with these cameras. Concert / band shots in poor lighting are impossible / extremely difficult to do (well) with P&S.

You really need a DLSR rig with fast lenses (with f stops in 1.4 - 2.8 range) for your stated needs.
