Artwork documentation

vanessa-rocks | Asked  a year ago | Last response was 11 months ago

I am a visual artist and am looking for a new camera to document my artwork and art exhibitions myself- mainly for catalogue reproductions and exhibition invites.   I am a drawer/illustrator but also make  3-D  installations. My drawings are tricky to photograph as they have very fine lines and  a lot of the white space left over on the paper.  My  installations are  large also detailed and intricate, but in contrast to the drawings they are very colorful.

I am looking for a camera that can take pictures with great image quality, with emphasis on lighting, details, and colors- even under not so optimal lighting arrangments (exhibition spaces). The lighting situation in my studio is alright.

Price is a main issue (the starving artist story...), the cheaper the better, but I am willing to make an investment.

I would probably do a lot manually, but I must admit I haven't used my old analogue SLR camera in about 10years, but I am willing to learn/re-learn the works.

I won't be needing video functions or any extras of those sorts. The camera would be used mainly for work, and once I get the hang of it again, surely also for some hobby photography.

In advance, many thanks  for  help :)

I am sure in my decision: K-5! Cause K-20 is an older camera, the image quality is not the best, but K-5 has a very very good quality! Compare with the more expensive Nikon D7000, it's hard to decide, which is better. And if you want to make an investiment, K-20 can't score goal. K-20 is already an old camera, what will be two-three years later?

Sorry for my english, i'm hungrian. I help you gladly, if my answer is too short and you have other questions.

Best wishes with your K-5! ;)
