High quality images

I am an intermediate photographer and will mostly use this for general photography.  I want something small because I will be traveling a lot, but I want to have some high quality images where I can adjust exposure, focus, aperture, etc..  I also don't want to spend a lot; around the $200 range.

Which camera do you recommend for John-Newton1?

Sony WX50 - $118
15.9 MP|5x f/2.6|1/2.5" CMOS|2.7" LCD
Canon 300 HS - $152
12 MP|5x f/2.7|1/2.5" CMOS|2.7" LCD

I would pick the wx50. I did a lot of research and the wx50 seems better and I did read quite a few bad reviews on the 300 hs.
