I guess i would say i am a little in between beginner and experianced. I love photography!!! I have a simple sony camera, and it works  fine, but i want something a little more hightech. This will be my first DSLR. I cant decide if i want the Nikon D3100 or Canon T2i. (I am 14 years old, and will be paying for this myself) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Which camera do you recommend for Ashley-Faith?

Nikon D3100 - $447
14.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Canon T2i - $500
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

Both of these cameras are great starter DSLRs. Nikon DSLRs tend to have better image quality than Canons at high ISO.  Having said that, I suggest you go with whichever you can find a better deal on.  Even consider dropping down from the T2i to the T3 to save a bit more money.

However, neither of these cameras are safe to shoot with underwater unless you're also going to buy a water-tight housing.  And in many cases, the housing costs nearly as much as the camera itself (and sometimes quite a bit more).

Agreed. UW housing is pricey. Perhaps you can look into a cheaper 'waterproof' point and shoot just until you get a feel for using a camera beneath the surface! D3000's and D3100's go pretty cheap on eBay and are usually bundled with at least an 18-55mm lens. If you or your parents are not comfortable with eBay then check on Amazon, Adorama, and B&H.
