Taking pictures of my new baby

I had a Nikon D60 that had water damage and can not be fixed.  I'm a little bit above a beginner photographer, but no where near an expert.  I'd like to get a camera body that is not too expensive so that I can get additional lenses someday.  What would you recommend as a replacement for the D60 body?  I have an 18-55 mm lens and 55-200 mm lens.  Thank you!

Which camera do you recommend for user44948?

Nikon D5100 - $497
16.1 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon D3100 - $447
14.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

both would deliver at par images. However, some features of D5100 like noise handling with higher megapixels (same sensor as D7000) and moving screen are attractive features

otherwise the cost is almost the same

also check out the D3200 which is now available. It would give you the same high pixel screen and a bigger 24MP sensor
