ability to take great photos underwater

Judy-Madill | Asked  over a year ago | Last response was over a year ago

Underwater photography is totally new to me and will be primarily vacation related snorkeling trips and perhaps winter snowmobiling as well . Camera price and ease of use are major considerations. From reading many of the reviews online it seems that there is little difference between older underwater cameras and the new ones. Having said that, I feel a little overwhelmed by information overload and am looking to the community to help me sort out the pros and cons. Thanks.

Which camera do you recommend for Judy-Madill?

Panasonic DMC-TS1 - $270
12 MP|4.6x f/3.3|1/2.5" CCD|2.7" LCD
Panasonic TS4 - $229
12 MP|4.6x f/3.3|1/2.5" CCD|2.7" LCD

    over a year ago Philip-Davis recommends the Panasonic TS4 / FT4

The TS4 will be better for vacations because it has a GPS device built in. If you ever upload your photos to the web then they'll automatically be marked with the location where you shot them.  However, if you only ever print photos then GPS isn't important at all.

Also, the TS4 has better button location for zooming in and out underwater.
