Depends on what you are using the camera for.  The 7D is basically a pro model with an APS-C sensor.  It is weather sealed and is much better built.  With that comes added weight and size.  The 1100D will take great photos, but doesn't have as many "pro" features.  If you plan on staying in "P" or "Auto" mode most of the time then you might want to get the 1100 and use the extra money for a flash and better lenses which will make a much greater difference in photo quality than the camera body.  If you are looking to learn about photography and perhaps take it up as a profession, then look into getting the 7D, or better yet a used 5D Mark II.

1100D has better image quality and better low light performance [not a lot but I get much sharper images all the time with 1100D]. 7D on the other side, has a way better body, better behaviour more control and more solid feel overal. I mostly use my 5D and 30D when I shoot weddings and have the 1100D dedicated to a wide lens without flash unit. 7D I tend not to use and would gladly sell it if Icould. My advice is go for the 1100D if "nice family photos" is your primary goal.

There is no comparison between a "Rebel" series and the 7D, which is strictly in a class by itself. The 7D is utilized by lots of pros owning the 5D and/or 1D, because the 7D offers features that even the other two very repectable 'pro' cameras even do not offer.

The newest Rebel models have most of the features, but, not all that the 60D offers.

Are you kidding? If you have money, go for the 7D.
