Which would be better for travel

Annette-Code | Asked  a year ago | Last response was a year ago

I am not an expert but 2 years ago bought a Canon  PowerShotSX20 as I wanted better and clearer picture when travelling.

Most camera's good up close shots. I was replacing my first digital a Konica Revia KD400Z I not sure how old (10 years?)it is

but pictures from a distance didn't turn out well with the zoom.

I am finding the Canon just too heavy for travelling and carrying in a day pack ending up with my carrying in my hand most of the time. I also found it often looked like I shook the camera, I suppose that is possible but have never had that problem before.

I now want a better point and shoot, I don't do settings or anything like that. Just set it once for the best pictures and leave it, for landscapes I would need the zoom, and I take lots of pictures of big buildings. I'm going to India in March 2013 and I am going to the Taj Mahal.  I want to take good pictures and although I know the Canon would be the better camera I'm not carrying it around for a month.

So now I'm looking at the Nikon Coolpix, either the S9300 or S6300.  One thing I'm not interested in is the most popular camera, I want something that meets my needs. I'm just not sure which would be the best Nikon for my needs. The reason I want the Nikon is the glass lense as I've seen pictures taken with a Nikon a long time ago when the first point and shoots came out. I'm stuck on wanting the Nikon. However, I will be open to others ideas. Annette Code

I would recommend the Canon S100. It may be slightly more expensive, but if your trip truly is once-in-a-lifetime(never going back), you may want to consider spending the extra cash for a truly amazing camera with tons of potential. The image sensor in the S100 is nearly twice the size of your choices which will produce better image quality in less than ideal lighting conditions(given the high quality glass the s100 has).

Thank you for your opinion it is appreciated. Is this the Power Shot 12.1, 5X Wide Angle Found at $399. on Amazon.ca Not sure if that is the right price? I like the idea of the grip on the front but why do Canon always have the buttons by my right thumb!

Yes. Its sells for about 375 USD, so I assume that is about the right price. Right thumb problems?
