I have a Sony when I initially went to get a canon and I'd say, the Sony a57 is d bomb. The T4i doesn't blow it out of the water as it still shoots better quality pictures and still a lot faster than the canon. The biggest selling point for the canon is the touch screen but the Sony, overall is a prettier and better designed camera. Finally, for the extra amount? Sony all the way.
Which camera do you recommend for Ana-Lucia-LZ?

Just try it, i love this camera, i've tried canon t4i & nikon d3200, but sony uses the same sensor as nikon d7000, a very highly praised apsc camera, and with sony you can have pro grade lens for a low price (minoltas). As for the evf, well it nice, not that great, but if i had to choose, pentamirror<a57's evf<pentaprism<a77's evf. Evf is sooo useable, it's a big PLUS for knowing what exposure you want to shoot, whether it slighly over or under, and you can "sometimes" ignore the metering. For video, oh well autofocus is fast and accurate, but i hardly use it, unlike shooting photos, shooting video has rules that you can't break it for some situations, like 25p fixed 1/50 SS, it pains me to push the AEL button until i get 1/50 SS, and it's impossible to push the AEL while using glidecam etc, so autofocus while nice, is just good for handheld video shooting. But really, don't compare video autofocus on a57 with t4i, t4i video autofocus just pure unusable. Well before you guys call me a sony fanboy, there's a thing you should know about slt's, and i really hate this one, BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU UNMOUNT LENSES on sony slt's, when you get dusts over the transluscent mirror, and i mean dusts that cannot be blown by a rocket blower, like mine, you're dead, i still don't know how to clean the transluscent mirror properly, it is so thin and fragile, even a sensorklear could scratch it -_- , and you have to buy $100 replacement mirror, which is a overpriced price for a mirror :'(. but but but for me a57 is the most fun camera to play with :)

Based on what I've read, the fact that the T4i's autofocus incorporates phase detection makes it faster and more accurate, so I'd go for the T4i.

I say dump them both and get either a Nikon D5100 or D7000, both have higher scores then the Sony A57 and Canon T4i. Nikon D5100 and D7000 are much better ISO in low light situations.

You must return a57. If you can't live without an optical viewfinder, you must definitely return the one with digital viewfinder.
However, with object tracking system you can't complain about Sony a57' video, it has already beaten the mighty 5d mark 3 in this category. So it depends, superior video quality with Sony if you shoot at moving subjects usually. or good video quality lacks of object tracking system with optical viewfinder.
Don't forget that a57 is a superior dsl-t across all categories to Canon T4i but there is not a huge difference between them.
Sin emotionaly manner, you can just put them together and compare by them with your real hands!!!! Not by Internet.
My assumption is that you will return a57 and get T4i, good luck with T4i;)

The sony a57 is better than the Canon T4i because the viewfinder of the A57 is 0.
72x around 90% larger viewfinder, and the T4i doesen't have it!
And the Sony A57 has a 60fps in FULL HD in format AVCHD with autofocus. And 12 fps in picture mode.
