D300s advice

Stacy-Johnson-Bradford | Asked  11 months ago | Last response was 9 months ago

I am an ametaur wanting to go pro!  I have a D90 currently and have an opportunity to snag a D300s for $800 used (slightly, but from a very reputable source).  Is this an upgrade that would be worth the investment or should I keep saving to make a larger leap?

d600 would be worth waiting in the 1500-2000$ range - save till then

    Hey Stacy

I think I would save for another camera, the D300s has a higher build quality, but I do not think this is a large enough of a jump in features and image quality in order to justify the $800 price tag.
I would go with the D7000, or if you are not in a hurry wait for it's replacement (I would guess some time in the next 6 months). The other option is to go full frame with the D800 or rumored D600, but that would involve upgrading your lenses as well.
