Optical, and yes, you can also use the screen if you choose.  But the optical is really smart and cool -- it switches to the viewfinder from the screen automatically when your eye gets near the viewfinder sensor.  No switch to flip....  Only downside is there is no focus on it and often the shot is unclear through it.  90% of the time we use the screen on ours. 

If you look at the photos, you'll see that it has an optical viewfinder.  (I'm guessing you can also use the screen as an electronic viewfinder)
