Confused...

Hi,

I'm a beginning photographer and I'm interested in the Canon Rebel series and the Nikon D3100. My brothers are both photographers that use Nikons but my Uncle works for Canon and can possibly get me a discount.

Anyways, I'm looking into doing headshots as well as photographing dance performances and taking pictures of dancers in an indoor space as well as outdoors. Being a dancer myself, I want to be able to pass off the camera to a friend and they take pictures of me, so it would have to be something that practically anyone can use. Am I looking in the right place?

Which camera do you recommend for VGPowell721?

Canon T3i - $549
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Nikon D3100 - $447
14.2 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD
Canon T2i - $500
17.9 MP|APS-C CMOS|3" LCD

I dance too, or at least I try to do so, I am an older (47) beginner and love classical ballet.

What I notice is that the most camera's are to slow to create really nice pictures of dancers in action. Look all of the camera's are able of taking excellent pictures, but mostly in this case I would recommend none of them.............it's the glas you are interested in, you need excellent glas, objectives or lenses. The Canon 50mm f/1.2L or one of the Nikon equivalents of them. And they cost a lost of money.

Then, the easiest way to get really good dance shots, is when they are not dancing, but posing. When you/they stand still. Examine your dance, make a movie of it, and then carefully watch it and when you see something you like stop it at that moment and pose that position for the camera. Than you can do it with every mentioned camera above without a very expensive lens, than you can work with a 85mm f/1.8 (350 euro), also very nice for portraits.

I shoot Canon and prefer the controls and feel of the body more, but I can't help but feel the pull to Nikon with the better image quality and low light ratings.  If you decide to go with Nikon you might want to take a look at the D5100 or D3200. The D3200 or D5100 should have much better picture quality and the D5100 has some more pro features than the D3100.
