which camera (price is not so important)

I am more a beginner and would like to know the image quality of the leica v lux 40, I have seen pictures from the sony nex 5 n which I liked but I found the pictures from leica d lux 5 almost a bit better. I am looking for making photos of skiiing, incl. short videos, the camera should be thin but the highest posible picture quality. ANy other camera that you could recommend besides the leica or sony (eventhough the sony I would only take with the small lenses due to the thickness it has with the bigger lenses.
