I am very very enthusiastic photographer and nuts for photography gadgets.I've actually ruined my 5 months finding out which one is best among d5100 and 550d.Literally,there's no difference in performance in both. Both results better,No one can differentiate their RAW format photographs. What makes the difference is the use of lenses.I heard and read Nikon d5100 has higher color depth adn blah blah blah ...but I found nothing making nikon walk over 550d.if you don't believe me ,go to flickr .com or any sites that uploads unedited photos and decide yourself. Its your choice now.But but but..if you really insist on making difference and buy then based on price choose Nikon D5100bcoz its 100 or 150 bucks cheaper than 550D.I don't know why canon made 550D so expensive...I tell you now...I am fan of both Canon and Nikon( also staring at Pentax,now-a-days)
Which camera do you recommend for dany-kallery?

I'm in the same position and I bought my D5100 today. I've seen many video tutorials and the Nikon has more options and (for me) a better structured menu.

for still photography...............canon 550d is very much recommended because the image quality is amazing and it enclosed more features for the amature photographer ..................and the 600d is especially made for video capturing...........if u want flip out screen..........consider 600d or 5100d...............

I will recommend you d7000 if you know how to use the, iOS, aperture speed and the aperture size that is the 'f'. But I you don't know how ??? Then get a d5100 best choice for really beginners

best for beginner and amateur ...

I would go for the 600D or 550D, the 550D is lower than the 600 only as it doesn't have a flip out screen and some other minor bits. Depends if you want the flip out screen or not. Either of these are very good for beginners as my friends own them. I own the 650D which is more complicated to the other two. I personally do not like the Nikon interface, so if I were you I would go into a shop and try both the canon and nikon out and see which feels better for you and which is easier to use.
- Hey, please tell me your experience with the 650D...? Is it better than 550D...?? Is the flip-out screen really useful?? i am interested in macro and street and landscape photography!!
- The flipout screen is extremely usefull in every situation. For an example, you can tilt the camera far above your head, and because you can turn the screen you see the complete image.

new release with new engine, touch screen and high resolution , hypird focus system
-
considering the capabilities of all 4 cameras which turn our to be close -go for the cheapest which is d5100 and invest the rest in some lenses
again it is a brand linking which plays than anything else as the comparison between all 4 cams would give slight differences which are almost similar
bundle with 35mm f1.8 and you would never want to switch a lens for portraits

I would have to say the 600D as it is best in good lighting if that is your case and has a great resolution. Plus since it is easy to operate, you will learn pretty fast while using this camera as the interface is well designed. In terms of ergonomics, this camera is the best of the 4 listed as its grip is superb. If you are looking for a cheap, yet just a level above too cheap, I would highly recommend the 600D as it has basically the same specs alongside the 650D and 550D.

650D. the 550D is small and lacking, while the new 650D is a brilliant camera. the Digic 5 Processor is better then almost all before, and the touch screen is the first in the DSLR market.

The Rebel T4i (650D outside USA) has the A+ Fully Automatic mode that will select from a wide range basic modes including portrait, macro, landscape, etc. It's got a high ISO limit that allows for low-light non-flash photography. It's got a Handheld Night Shot mode that allows the photographer to avoid using a tripod in most cases, But, the touch-screen flip-out display allows for easy access to all allowable features (for a given mode) by just touching them; avoiding having to remember a lot of buttons and menus. It mimics many features of today's smartphones; swipe, touch focus, pinch zoom, etc.The wonderful thing about the T4i is that it truly is an entry into the world of professional photography. It shoots video 1080p 24/30fps. The lens you must use is the new EF-S 18-135mm IS STM. STM is Canon's silent stepper motor for focus, which is necessary for video since the microphones will pick up the lens while it focuses. The T4i has continual focus in video mode; So, that means that STM allows you to track a subject coming at the video camera and keep it in focus w/o picking up the sound of the lens while it keeps focus. It's also flexible focal length allows you to go from wide to telephoto 15-135mm (29-216mm 35mm equivalent). All of this in a very affordable price, Canon's most inexpensive DSLR camera.
